Description

Initially launched on November 12th, 2013, Montréal $ud dropped like a ton of bricks on the Quebec hip-hop scene with a post-rap sound that left its mark on an entire generation. A complex vocabulary composed of joual, English and Creole, unconventional beats drawing from diverse genres such as electro and punk, five complementary and instantly recognizable MCs, a unique lexical universe and an ambitious concept with which suburban youth dreaming of urban hedonism can identify: all of these elements made Montréal $ud such a distinctive work that it still stands out ten years later. Out of print on vinyl for several years, Montréal $ud will be released once again to celebrate the conceptual epic of our six young Jé$us (rappers Greg Beaudin, 20Some, Yes*, Ogee Rodman, Joe Rocca and producer VNCE CARTER), tracing their exile from the $ud $ale to the big city and the realization of their hopes and fears along the way. This Quebec rap classic has aged like a fine wine, and it’s once again available in the format it deserves.

This is a LP preorder only. LPs will ship a few days before the release date, on June 5th.

The audio excerpt La Française du début, which opens the track Swich, was borrowed in its entirety from René Lussier’s album Le Trésor de la Langue, where it appears as the opening track (www.renelussier.ca
). Dead Obies used this excerpt as a tribute to his work.
