Asuguuq is a heart-warming, stripped-down love song that showcases Elisapie’s soft, emotive vocals. Guitarist Joe Grass performs on the track, and builds his soul-blues inspired riffs into a beautiful crescendo. The song's feeling of purity and authenticity originate from the recording session that took place lakeside, while Elisapie worked on her latest record The Ballad of the Runaway Girl. Asuguuq is originally by Charlie Adams, one of Nunavik’s (Northern Quebec) greatest singer-songwriter, who passed away in 2008. With this performance, Elisapie embodies the incredulous feeling of falling in love, portraying the meaning of Asuguuq, the Inuktitut word for “Oh My God”. This new offering from Elisapie comes as a gift to Inuit communities, in celebration of Canada’s National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21).
